Fox Glacier

Few places in the world let you experience a glacier this up close, especially with lush rainforest right alongside. Book a Heli-Hike to capture the ice formations in stunning detail, or take it up a notch with a Scenic Flight for jaw-dropping aerial shots. You can also see the glacier from the ground on the South Side Walk.

Lake Matheson

This one is a total must-do for sunrise or sunset. On a still day, Lake Matheson perfectly reflects Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. It’s no wonder this place is iconic!

There’s a well-formed walking track around the lake that takes up to 2 hours to complete, with several viewing decks along the way. The most famous photo spot? That’ll be Reflection Island, about halfway round.

Minnehaha Walk

f you’ve ever dreamed of walking through a fairytale, the Minnehaha Walk is where that dream comes to life. Just a short stroll from Fox Glacier Village, this gentle loop winds beneath a canopy of lush native bush and moss-covered trees.

By day, it’s a photographer’s paradise, think ethereal green light, ancient rainforests, and storybook vibes. But by night? That’s when the magic truly begins. The track transforms into a glow worm wonderland, with hundreds of tiny lights twinkling like stars along the path. No filter needed.

Tip: A slow shutter and steady hand = some of the most magical night shots you’ll ever take.

Lake Gault

This hidden gem takes a bit more effort (around 2-3 hours return), but WOW, is it worth it. The Lake Gault Track winds through lush forest and rewards you with mountain reflections that rival even Lake Matheson, but without the crowds.

It’s a dreamy, peaceful spot for golden hour shots, or some reflective storytelling for your travel blog.

Peters Pool

A short, easy 40-minute return walk through the forest brings you to Peters Pool. It’s a tranquil glacier-fed lake with stunning views of Fox Glacier in the distance.

Peters Pool is the perfect place for a peaceful snap (or ten) and a little break from the more adventurous activities. Early mornings often bring magical mist too!

Fox Glacier Lookout

Want a shot that screams “epic”? The Peak View Lookout offers panoramic views of Fox Glacier and the Southern Alps. It’s one of the best spots for capturing the scale and drama of this unique landscape.

Sunset here is next-level, with golden light kissing the peaks. Trust us: your followers will definitely ask where this was taken.

Mount Cook Lookout

You don’t need to hike to get a great shot of NZ’s tallest mountain. Just south of Fox Glacier Village, the Mount Cook Lookout offers a framed view of Aoraki/Mount Cook peeking through the ranges.

It’s a popular stop for photographers, especially at sunrise when the peaks turn pastel pink. Stunning.
