The fly-in, fly-out Heli Hike combines the excitement of walking on Fox Glacier itself with the thrill of two helicopter flights over spectacular scenery. By flying in, you are able to access and explore the parts of the glacier where its forces work hardest. These glacial forces often create spectacular ice caves, arches, and tunnels.

Equipped with all the necessary gear, you’ll fly over the pinnacles of the lower icefall, where the ice is in constant motion. You’ll then circle the upper icefall and Victoria Falls before landing. Your landing site on the ice is a remote and exceptionally beautiful part of the glacier. Follow closely behind your guide as you explore the amazing formations and ice caves which are only seen here. Each departure is a true voyage of exploration. There are so many changing features that even the guides always find something new.

There are two Heli Hike options available. The Flying Fox Heli Hike gives up to 3 hours on the ice, departing 8:50am or 11:50am. The Extreme Fox Heli Hike gives you up to 7 hours on the ice, and departs at 8:15am.

This day long experience introduces the adventurous to the exhilarating sport of ice climbing, on the spectacular ice walls in the lower part of the Fox Glacier. Your professional guide will tailor the day to offer variety and challenge to the novice and expert alike. Before heading to the ice you will be equipped with specialised mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axes and technical gear.

Guides who instruct on these days receive special training to ensure they teach skills in the correct order so you advance quickly. You will be surprised by the quick progress that you make. The adrenaline will start to flow as you challenge yourself with longer and steeper pitches. Using ice tools and the front points of your crampons, you climb vertical and at times, overhanging ice walls and pinnacles, secured at all times by a top rope attached to your harness. This adventure will be an experience you never forget, and may just inspire you to spend more time in the mountains.

The Fox It Up Ice Climbing Experience provides up to 7 hours on the ice, and departs at 8:15am.

If you prefer to stay a little closer to the ground, a guided walk of Fox Glacier Valley could be the experience for you. Explore untamed natural wilderness and beauty from the lush rainforest and valley floor.

The tour begins with an e-bike ride from Fox Glacier Village, then on through ancient forest. After parking up the bikes, you’ll then hike along a secret trail, led by your knowledgeable guide. This experience provides some incredible photo opportunities throughout, including the closest view of the glacier’s terminal face.

The Fox Glacier Valley E-Bike & Hike experience takes roughly 4 hours, and requires a moderate fitness level.

Enjoy a real mountaineering experience, with no previous experience required! Take a stunning helicopter to Chancellor Hut, then ascend 2,000 metres to the summit.

You’ll enjoy breathtaking views over New Zealand’s highest mountain peaks, as well as an incredible sense of achievement. There’s nothing like the feeling of being on top of the world! All you need is a decent level of fitness, and sense of adventure. If you’re keen to get the most out of the experience, stay overnight in the historic Chancellor Hut and be truly immersed in the mountains. Then in the morning, you can wake up to the fresh mountain air before exploring more stunning locations. You’ll discover alpine gardens, waterfalls, and the icy features of Victoria Flat before flying back to the village.

There are two Mountain Experience options. The Browne Fox Heli Trek takes up to 9 hours, while the Browne Fox Overnight Heli Trek takes up to 2 days.
