Chalet Lookout Track

You’ll find this an excellent short hike and a mildly adventurous journey, crossing lovely clear streams.

This track is easy to follow through the rainforest as it is well signposted by DOC. It was originally an old glacier access road which was built in 1937. You’ll pass by a huge boulder ‘Bivvy Rock’ as you go which was used often by early trampers and climbers to the area.

The ‘Chalet Hut’ was located in a small clearing near the end of this trail. It was used by early glacier guides and their clients as a place to take their refreshments.

For more details on this track talk to our staff at reception, local knowledge is all important when in the outdoors!
